At the time of the plant's discovery about 80 years ago, herbal products were still viewed skeptically. Only later did people begin to believe in the power of herbs. The founder of Himalaya set out to provide people with safe and effective plant-based medicines. He wanted to praise these plant-based medicines with the same quality and efficacy parameters as conventional pharmaceutical drugs. He knew this was only possible through empirical research. Indeed, scientific research proved that the plant-based preparations helped. After four years of research on Rauwolfia serpentina, Serpina®, the world's first natural blood-pressure-reducing medicine, was launched to the market in 1934.
