Ashwagandha root is one of the most important tonics in Ayurveda and is frequently used in the herbal medicine Dravyaguna. Translated into German, the name means something like "smell of the horse". In German, ashwagandha is known as the sleeping berry.

Uses

Ashwagandha is a plant used in Ayurvedic medicine as a tonic. The dried and cut root is suitable for brewing a tea, dissolving the active ingredients in warm ghee or grinding it in a mortar and processing it into powder.

Effectiveness according to Ayurveda

According to Ayurveda, spices and herbs help to maintain the balance of the doshas on a subtle energetic level. In Ayurveda, they are an important part of the daily diet. They provide the body with sufficient secondary plant substances and corresponding rasas and gunas (taste and properties of the plants) and thus harmonise digestion. However, they alone are no substitute for a healthy, balanced diet.

The mode of action of Ayurvedic herbs is based on traditional knowledge of Indian medicine and works at the level of the doshas. An effect in the sense of modern Western science is therefore not claimed. In particular, the aspect of balancing the doshas has no equivalent in our science, so that there is no confirmation of the effects described in Ayurveda in the sense of Western science.
