Linden blossoms are a proven ingredient for soothing teas with a gentle, floral aroma.
Details
Linden blossoms contain flavonoids, including the substances quercetin, rutin and astilbin. They also contain mucilage and a small amount of essential oil. The mucilage present helps to moisten the throat and soothe dry, irritating cough while protecting irritated mucous membranes.
Linden blossom tea is also said to have diaphoretic properties and can help "sweat out" a feverish, flu-like infection. Which ingredient in linden blossoms is responsible for this has not yet been scientifically investigated. Combined with elderflower, linden blossoms are frequently found in cold and flu teas.
Application
For a cup of linden blossom tea, pour two teaspoons of linden blossoms over boiling water and let it steep for 10 minutes. Sweeten with honey as desired.
