Yarrow flowers are a time-honored plant in natural medicine and ideal for tea blends or as a single herb.
Details
Yarrow was already mentioned in the classical works of Pliny, Hippocrates, and Dioscorides. Even the warrior Achilles is said to have known and used it—the botanical name Achillea millefolium is derived from Achilles, who in Homer's epic is said to have treated the fresh battle wounds of a comrade in Troy with yarrow. The species name millefolium (= thousand-leaf) refers to the finely divided leaf structure.
Preparation
For one cup of tea, steep 2 teaspoons (2-4 g) of yarrow herb with approximately 150 ml of hot water, covered, for 10 minutes, then strain.
Note
Do not use if you have a known hypersensitivity to composite flowers (such as arnica, chamomile, or marigold)! In particular, external application can cause allergic skin reactions in certain individuals (itchy, inflammatory skin changes, blister formation).
